about me
Hello! I’m Cory Abshear and I am a Certified Trainer and Behavior Consultant (CTBC) as well as a Certified Control Unleashed Instructor (CCUI). I volunteer my time with the East Bay SPCA and am certified in Fear Free Shelter Handling. I strive to always further my education and have completed courses in Canine Body Language with Shelter Play Group Alliance and the East Bay SPCA, Canine Enrichment with Pet Harmony Training, Relaxation Protocols with Up to Snuff, Reactivity with Every Dog Austin and Dog at Heart, and have also taken several Tromplo courses including Brave Learning, Control is an Illusion and Trust Codes Part 1 & 2. I am also deeply invested in learning more about Canine Physical Well Being and have taken courses from Galen Myotherapy and Sit Stay Squat. I believe that continuing education is incredibly important in the unregulated field of dog training. I constantly sign up for more classes with experienced trainers in my field that use the most humane and effective methodology. There is always more to learn and we can always be better teachers!
methodology
I am a Positive Reinforcement, Science Based, Humane and Force Free Trainer. What does that mean? We will never use any type of training that involves punishment or coercion with your dog. Instead, we will see your dog for the wonderful individual they are and do our best to understand their needs. We will use strategies as outlined in Dr. Susan Friedman’s Humane Hierarchy. These make sure we are taking your dog’s physical and emotional well being into account before starting on any training plan. We will work together to come up with a plan that ensures your dog has agency, consent, choice, and enrichment in their lives. And we will do that in a way that is accessible to you as well! Training is about making sure everyone’s needs are met in a joyful and harmonious way.
